THE HITCHHIKER and THE RADIO STAR:
As you may expect, Scotch and Nubbins have a pretty close relationship. Chop-Top, Nubbins, and Scotch are often seen together as a group. If one is near by, the other two are probably not too far off either. Nubbins and Scotch are the two people that Chop-Top spends the most time with, so naturally, they got to spend a lot of time getting to know each other as well.
In the first couple months that Scotch began integrating into the Sawyer household, his gentle, mild personality took Nubbins some getting used to. But he certainly enjoyed his company. Scotch is a kind ear for Nubbins, who often has a lot to say. And Scotch enthusiastically encourages his creative hobbies, which is refreshing for him. Nubbins sees Scotch as family, but even moreso as his best friend (or... one of his best friends, including Chop-Top).
Scotch is often getting Nubbins (and Chop-Top) out of trouble. And he frequently defends him from Drayton's ire. Which, while well-intentioned, has led to Nubbins deliberately antagonizing Drayton and then hiding behind Scotch for protection, knowing that he will defend him. The two are both creatively inclined and like to spend time working on creative projects in each others' company. And Nubbins loves to share his art with Scotch because of how supportive he is. Sometimes they bounce ideas off of each other... Usually, they're working on separate things in the same room while Nubbins rambles aimlessly and Scotch sits and listens.
Because of the familiar bond that they have, Nubbins is sometimes more rough with Scotch than he maybe ought to be. Especially when Nubbins initiates a form of "play" (for lack of a better word). Scotch loves horseplay and isn't afraid to get dirty, despite his gentle demeanor, so he has no trouble keeping up with the brothers' antics. However, this can lead to him getting physically hurt because Nubbins frequently treats Scotch with the same force that he would with Chop-Top. This isn't to say that Scotch can't hold his own against him. In fact, Scotch may be a LITTLE more physically powerful than Nubbins, though he is less scrappy than him. So, fortunately, the extent of his injuries are seldom anything past abrasions or cuts from rolling around in the dirt. But that doesn't mean that Drayton won't give Nubbins hell for being so rough with him anyway.
HISTORY and FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Nubbins met Scotch at the same time that Chop-Top did, because he was brought along for the ride to the station... If you aren't familiar with Chop-Top and Scotch's meeting or you just need a refresher, you can read it HERE!!!
Nubbins' initial exposure to Scotch was the same as Chop-Top and Bubba's. He first heard him on the radio, co-hosting at K-OKLA with Stretch. The Sawyer brothers all liked him well enough. Nubbins frequently referred to him as "the nice radio DJ" because of how unobtrusive he was (despite the fact that both DJs were nice). Scotch was sort of a beloved public figure for the family... A large part of him becoming so endearing to the family was Chop-Top gushing about him all the time. Drayton used to tell Chop-Top to shut up about Scotch almost every day.
But for Nubbins, he was really amused by his brother's fascination with the DJ... Sometimes referring to him as "Chop's boyfriend" far before the two had ever met. He simultaneously encouraged him and teased him over it all. Admittedly, Nubbins was sort of fond of Scotch, in a distant kind of way. He liked when he was on air, but wasn't super emotionally attached to him at this point.
So, when Chop-Top had resolved to go to the station to meet him, Nubbins came too, of course. Upon first meeting him in person, Nubbins could barely help himself from proceeding to tease Scotch about Chop-Top's crush on him. Mostly because he thought it was really funny. But he also wanted to sort of be Chop's wingman in a way. Of course, Chop-Top wasn't super thrilled about this at the time. Sometimes, Nubbins jokes with Chop-Top about being the reason that they ended up getting together.
As for Scotch, his first impressions of Nubbins unfortunately were sort of clouded by fear. Not only because both Nubbins and Chop-Top startled him by sneaking into the station after hours. But also because he was already on edge about the Lefty tape situation. However, as the night went on, it became clear that Scotch and Nubbins got along pretty well. Scotch thought that Nubbins was funny and really creative. Although Nubbins was having fun with mildly antagonizing him at first, he began warming up to him fairly quickly because of how kind and patient he was towards him.
